Drake & Rihanna Top Spotify’s Year-End Lists

“Drake has been unstoppable this year — he’s a true global superstar.”

Drake, Justin Bieber and Rihanna top this year’s Spotify year-end lists looking at the streaming service’s most popular acts.

Beyond all, Drake saw supreme success across U.S. and international charts, topping tallies for top artists, most streamed male artists, most streamed tracks with “One Dance (feat. WizKid and Kyla)” and most streamed albums with Views. Drake was also the top artist in hip-hop and pop genres and his song “One Dance” was Spotify’s top breakup song, according to a press release.

This is Drake’s second year in a row as the world’s most streamed artist, receiving more than 4.7 billion streams — more than double the 1.8 billion he saw last year. Drake is the most streamed artist of all time on Spotify with over 8.7 billion streams.

“Drake has been unstoppable this year — he’s a true global superstar,” Spotify’s chief content & chief strategy officer Stefan Blom said in a statement. “With the top album and the top song this year, as well as his successful Summer Sixteen tour, Drake continues to engage his fans in a way that only Drake can; it’s no surprise he is dominating the music industry.”

Bieber and Rihanna, meanwhile, faired well for themselves, ranking second and third on both the international top artists list and the most streamed albums list, respectively.

Rihanna also topped the most streamed female artists list and was the most popular R&B act.

Bruce Springsteen performs at the 10th Annual Stand Up for Heroes event at The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Nov. 1, 2016 in New York City.

Bruce Springsteen stopped in Denver on Wednesday as part of a nationwide tour promoting his new autobiography Born to Run.

An estimated 1,100 people who bought advance tickets lined up at the Tattered Cover Book Store to get a pre-autographed copy of the book and a photo with the Boss. The line extended out of the store and down the street.

The store posted a YouTube video earlier this year urging Springsteen to visit during his book tour. The new incoming co-owner, Len Vlahos, is seen playing guitar and singing “Growin’ Up” while walking through the store.

In the book, Springsteen remembers his childhood in New Jersey, his rise to superstardom and personal struggles that inspired songs such as “Born to Run” and “Thunder Road.”

OMG! Lin-Manuel Miranda & Dwayne Johnson’s ‘Millennials: The Musical’ Has Arrived

Lin-Manuel Miranda smashed records with his Broadway smash Hamilton. Now, the musicals maestro has turned his attention to smashing millennials in a new satirical production with his Moana collaborator Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

Millennials: The Musical follows the adventures of 22-year-old Brooklynite Crystal, whose life comes unstuck when she loses her phone. Has she tried calling it? “I don’t know my number. I don’t know any numbers,” she responds.

The song and dance routines flow as our hero and her neighbor Jack hit the clubs, visit her favorite juicebar/record store/vinyl store and she meets a Facebook date who doesn’t quite match up.

Millennials is full of wit, charm and at less than 15 minutes, it sure doesn’t drag. Watch it below.

Hillary Clinton Makes Surprise Appearance at UNICEF Gala to Honor Katy Perry

Hillary Clinton made rare post-election appearance at UNICEF’s annual Snowflake Ball to surprise honoree Katy Perry, an outspoken supporter throughout her presidential campaign.

“On a personal level, I cannot tell you how delighted I am to be here to help celebrate … a global megastar, a social media queen with the most Twitter followers in the world – although she’s getting some competition – and someone whose powerful voice and creative lyrics remind us when you get knocked down to get back up,” Clinton said while presenting the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award to the musician, who was immediately brought to tears as the attendees of Tuesday’s gala at Cipriani Wall Street gave her a standing ovation.

“I have seen Katy’s commitment to the causes she believes in firsthand,” she continued. “I’ve gotten to spend time with her and I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place. She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them. We need champions like Katy now more than ever: her passion, her energy and, yes, her voice, louder than a lion.”

Perry, an ambassador for the organization since 2013 who also raised over $1 million for UNICEF through her most recent world tour, jokingly asked the ballroom, “Does anyone have a tissue?” And as Clinton exited the space with her security detail, Perry told her, “I’ve always had a voice – a singing voice – but I’ve never had a voice like I’ve had before. Hillary has lit that voice inside of me, and that light will never go out, it will continue to get brighter and brighter and brighter. Thank you Hillary. You motivate me and so many millions of people.”

Like Clinton, Perry also included a subtle dig at Donald Trump: “Even though I’ve only been on a few field visits, I’m happy I’ve helped highlight the effects of climate change, which is real.”

Octavia Spencer hosted the event, also attended by Allison Williams, Tea Leoni, Maggie Q, Orlando Bloom, Tamron Hall and Kyle Maclachlan, among others. The gala dinner included performances by Sara Bareilles and the cast of The Color Purple.

More to come.

Joe Esposito, Longtime Elvis Presley Aide, Dies at 78

Elvis Presley’s close personal friend and professional aide Joe Esposito has died. He was 78.

Esposito’s daughter Cindy Bahr said Tuesday that he had dementia and died Nov. 23 of natural causes in Calabasas, Calif.

Esposito met Presley in 1959 while both were serving in the Army. After they completed their service, Esposito became Presley’s assistant in professional matters, from keeping his calendar to functioning as road manager when the King was on tour.

Esposito was one of two best men at Presley’s 1967 wedding to Priscilla Wagner and a pallbearer at his funeral in 1977.

After Presley’s death, Esposito worked as a road manager for other artists, including the Bee Gees and Michael Jackson.

Survivors also include his son Anthony, a brother and sister and three grandchildren.
